Employment Programs

WBC have established successful Employment programs including a Trucking and skilled tradesperson program to help resolve the current shortage of skilled workers in Canada. We are working with many other trades people and professionals and are in the process of setting up additional programs. These programs are benefiting both Canadian Employers and individuals wishing to transfer their skills and knowledge to Canada.

The Truck Driver Program
With the high demand for Truck Drivers in Canada, the Truck Driver Program is proving to be successful for both Drivers wishing to move to Canada and for the Employers. Truck Driving in Canada is categorized as a low skilled occupation, therefore without the Truck Driver Program, most drivers would not be eligible for immigration to Canada.

The Relocation Team have established a good relationship with trucking companies who have been unable to fulfill their recruiting needs in Canada. Employers are currently offering long haul runs. WBC are successfully placing drivers in Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, PEI and Saskatchewan and are proud members of each of the trucking associations.

The Mechanic Program The Mechanic program is aimed towards individuals who have qualifications and/or experience as either a Truck Mechanic, an Automotive Mechanic or a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

WBC work closely with tutors at a trade college where arrangements will be made for the Mechanics to have a private tutorial. The tutors are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the foreign Mechanic so know the main areas on which to focus. This will also involve a review of different terminologies used. The tutor will prepare the Mechanic for the licensing exam that is a requirement for most provinces. A strong track record in licensing exam results have confirmed the strength and the success of this program.

Included in the Mechanic’s Program:

  • A Mechanic’s textbook will be sent to the Mechanic, along with sample tests, a study handbook, a study guide and material to aid the foreign worker with Canadian mechanical terminology.
  • Arrangements will be made for the Mechanic to meet with a tutor at a top trade college in Canada. The tutor has experience in tutoring foreign Mechanics.
  • Employment interviews will be arranged and confirmed prior to the Mechanic’s fact-finding trip.
  • A full itinerary will be prepared for the Mechanic. This itinerary will include the details for the tutorial, as well as details to take the licensing exam and confirmed interviews with approved employers.
  • Follow up with the employer to secure an employment contract for the Mechanic and ensure that all documentation is in order and meets the required provincial and federal labour standards.
  • Upon acceptance of an employment contract, WBC will work with the employer to prepare all documentation in order to get the provincial approval for the employer to hire the foreign Mechanic.
  • Full guidance and preparation of the Mechanic’s work permit application, as well as applications for his family, to be submitted to Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
